Our Rotary E-Club of Global Trekkers raised nearly $2,000 towards the Global Polio Eradication Initiative hosting the Toast and Taste to End Polio Now, a virtual beverage tasting in celebration of World Polio Day. Wine expert, Marie Guido-Miner, led a group of Rotarians and other supporters on a sensory journey to awaken their taste buds and educate them on the nuances of the tasting process. The tasting ended with a toast to Rotary and our GPEI partners and to the recent positive news in the initiative to eradicate polio:
Two cases reported globally as of mid-October: one each in Afghanistan and Pakistan
Afghan women may be among “frontline workers” in vaccination programs targeting approximately 10 million children in Afghanistan beginning in November
Nearly 3 billion children vaccinated worldwide
More than 19 million people are living a polio-free life and are walking today
While this news is encouraging, we cannot give up the fight against polio. We must continue vaccinations until we reach zero cases for a three-year period to be declared polio-free.
YOU can Help Rotary and our partners bring this devastating disease to an end.
